Let me take a second to set the record straight! George Washington Carver was NOT the inventor of peanut butter. However, he was an African American agricultural scientist and inventor who came up with over 300 uses for the peanut. George Washington Carver was born into slavery during the American Civil War. He eventually gained his freedom after the abolition of slavery in 1865. Carver went on to pursue his education at Simpson College, Iowa State Agricultural College and lastly Iowa state. Shortly after receiving his master of science degree in 1896 he moved to Alabama to become the director of the department of agriculture at the Tuskegee Institute (β€οΈπŸ―πŸ’›).While toiling away in the Tuskegee Institute laboratory, he found several uses for the peanut including shaving cream, shampoo, and even plastics. But alas, no peanut butter. ✊🏾πŸ₯œπŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€πŸ”¬
