Posted by Have you ever heard of Joe “Midnight Express” Lillard? The “last Black man in pro football?” Joe was a running back in the NFL for the Chicago Cardinals from 1932-1933. Amid racist attempts to *modernize* the game of football, Joe Lillard, who was known for his hot temper, was blacklisted from the game. He was literally the last Black man to play professional football until Kenny Washington and Woody Strode joined the Los Angeles Rams in 1946 after World War II.
