Ida B. Wells-Barnet was born July 1862 in Mississippi, about 6 months before emancipation. Ida grew up to become a journalist writing about issues of race and politics. Ida B. Wells went on to establish groups such as National Association of Colored Women and the NAACP. She was also known to be friends with Susan B. Anthony and even tried to show her the *racist* error of her ways when it came to women’s suffrage, but we don’t have time to get into that ☕️.
Ida B. Wells used her writings not only to fight against injustice faced by African Americans but also African American WOMEN. Next time someone wants to chat about the heroines of feminism..make sure they don’t forget the good sis.
