The Truth

Isabella Baumfree, better known as Sojourner Truth, was an African American abolitionist and women’s rights activist. Sister truth was born into slavery in 1797 but later escaped with her daughter in 1826. She devoted her life to the abolitionist cause and championed many reform causes including poverty rights and prison reform. Sojourner Truth is most notably known for her impromptu, unplanned, free-styled, game-changing, speech, “Ain’t I a Woman?” She first delivered this speech at the 1851 Ohio Women’s Rights Convention and, in my opinion, single handedly saved the convention in which the original speakers were getting booed off the stage. But that’s another story for another day. 🤧
