Today we celebrate Alex Haley 📚 ! Most notably known for his novel ‘Roots: The Saga of an American Family’ written in 1976 and later turned into a miniseries in 1977.

Before his fame he was in the US coast guard until 1959. After that he decided to try and make it as a freelance writer. He wasn’t making much money until he got his big break with Playboy in 1962 to write an article about Miles Davis. Later on he would conduct interviews for several prominent African Americans such as MLK and Malcom X in a book titled “The Playboy Interviews.” Things really took off for Haley when he wrote “The Autobiography of Malcom X: As Told to Alex Haley” in 1963.
Have you seen Roots?? If you haven’t, you should. ✊🏾
